Roffey hit eight past Faygate in cup rout

Roffey secured a safe passage through to the next round of the Sussex County Intermediate Challenge Cup with a thumping victory over Faygate.

The divisional difference between the two sides showed after just ten minutes. Paul White managed to get on the end of a through ball before smashing past Faygate ‘keeper Stewart Delvin.

A second Roffey goal was added just after half an hour; Michael Spence’s rampagin run and cross was finished by Asa Pearson, the striker tapping home.

The game - dominated by Roffey - was put to bed on the stroke of half time. Ben Bissett’s strike was blocked, falling to Damon Aston who found the net excellently.

After the break, Aston doubled his day’s tally, emphatically cracking home Roffey’s fourth goal three minutes after half time.

The striker went from scorer to provider soon after, setting up Reece Hannigan to net his first goal for the hosts just two minutes later.

Roffey didn’t take their foot off the gas and a fifth goal was added. Substitute Steve White - a replacement for Spence - scored with almost his first touch, again, the impressive Aston got the assist, sliding the ball through to White who finished neatly.

Aston wasn’t finished yet, and played a part in another goal for Roffey with 20 minutes remaining, feeding Bissett who notched the goal his performance deserved.

Faygate battled till the end, but there was no mercy from Roffey who added an eight goal late on, Aston finding Pearson, who completed his brace.
