First-half strikes from Russell Shoebridge and Oliver Setchell ensured Swans ran out 2-1 winners over Little Common in their Southern Combination League Division 1 encounter.

Before Saturday’s home triumph, Storrington had collected two draws but Rhodie was delighted to finally collect a win.

He said: “It was a massive relief to get that victory, We won in the cup earlier this season but this was my first league win.

“I think it’s one the players deserve for their efforts in recent weeks. We didn’t start very well but then two goals just before half-time settled us down.

“They then got one back early in the second half but when I thought we could have been under pressure, we ended well.

“I think it’s testament to the team for how well we have finished matches so far this season.

“In a couple of games it would have been easy to fold and not collect something but we’ve kept going to the end and been rewarded so far.”

Swans were slow out of the blocks but found themselves a goal ahead after 21 minutes.

Ross Fraser broke clear down the right before seeing his delivery dropped by Common goalkeeper Matthew Crutwell into Shoebridge’s path who was on hand to tap home.

Fraser was once again involved as Storrington went two goals ahead eight minutes before the break.

Great work from the frontman saw his jinking run and shot strike a post before falling into Setchell’s path for the easiest of finishes.

Lewis Hole gave Loxwood a lifeline when he reduced the deficit three minutes after the restart but Common appeared to run out of steam and Swans held on for their first three points of the season.

Rhodie’s side make the trip to division-higher Arundel in a Peter Bentley Cup second-round clash tomorrow (7.45pm).

STORRINGTON: Neocleous; Boxall, M.Jarvie, Bardouleau; Setchell, Searle, I.Jarvie, Shoebridge, Meeney; Warner, Fraser. Subs: Rhodie (Shoebridge), Cave, Nelmes.
