HORSHAM YMCA moved off the bottom of the early Division One league table with their first win of the season at Worthing Utd last night.
Worthing went ahead in the eighth minute through Tom Chapman to trail 1-0 at the break but the visitors struck back a minute after the restart with a Wade Easton header.
The Mavericks were reduced to ten men on the hour when James Bywater brought down Dean Wright when clean through and was shown a straight red card, and Dan Sullivan curled in the resulting free kick to put YM ahead.
Eight minutes later Worthing went down to nine men when Scott Chamberlain was given his marching orders for a needless push on sub George Hillier, and with three minutes of normal time remaining sub Tim Martin slotted in a third to give YM a first win in four league games.
After the match manager Sammy Donnelly said: “I always look to win no matter what and we were unfortunate on Saturday not to get a win so I’m pleased for everyone and we’re starting to build. We’re not there yet, not by a long shot but we will get there.
“Our season starts today, we’ve got one or two injuries to our new players already so let’s see where we go from here.”
