Late Midhurst loss won’t taint a fine 2012 for Heath

Broadbridge Heath ended a very successful year with a 2-0 defeat at Midhurst on Saturday, on a day when the majority of games in the county were washed out.

In tough conditions both teams gave their all in an entertaining match for the supporters. Heath started well and Mark Cave almost scored in the opening minute but was denied by some quick thinking by the home keeper, and a minute later Tim Martin cut in from the left and hit a shot which the Midhurst keeper tipped wide.

In tough conditions the hosts were happy to shoot from distance, though Heath keeper James Fisher was equal to anything fired at him, and midway through the half Grant Miller blasted a free kick inches wide of the post before Jamal Sultan’s cross was deflected onto the post by a defender as the half ended goalless.

Matt Collino smashed a great chance wide for the hosts while at the other end Ben Arthur was denied twice from corners. With six minutes remaining Midhurst hit Heath on the break and Collino stole in to head the hosts ahead, and with Heath pushing they grabbed a second through Mike Asare to seal the win.

Heath: Fisher, Swaine, Chester, Attwater, Waddingham, Arthur, Cave (Wood 60), Miller, Aston (Flack 84), Martin (Pritchard 75), Sultan.
