Injury-hit YM target first points of the season

SAMMY Donnelly’s new-look Horsham YMCA host Lingfield tonight in their second match back in the County League.

After Saturday’s 2-0 defeat against a much-fancied Rye on the same Gorings Mead ground it is another chance to get off the mark but again the new manager has injuries to contend with.

Striker Pat Massaro and Tim Martin are still missing, as is Kevin Joyce who came off early on Saturday.

Donnelly said: “The performance on Saturday wasn’t that bad against a very physical team but I’m looking for us to improve in some areas. Saturday was the first time the side have really played together so the biggest thing for tonight is for us to start gelling.

“Hopefully I’ll have a couple more additions by the weekend so we have to get this game out of the way and get what we can out of it.”

After tonight YM go to Lancing in the FA Cup on Saturday, before home games in the league against Chichester City (Tuesday August 23) and Peacehaven (Saturday August 27) before finishing the month away at Worthing Utd on Tuesday August 30.

That makes it six games in a little over two weeks but Donnelly said: “That’s just how the fixtures work out, we just have to take whatever comes our way and embrace it.”
