Horsham YMCA’s match at East Preston will go ahead on Saturday after repair works were carried out on a six-foot hole in the pitch at The Lashmar.

The club have fixed the deep hole in the ground, which was caused when a manhole cover shattered in their derby match with Littlehampton on December 27.

That caused EP to postpone their match with Loxwood on Saturday as the club had to wait for permission from Arun District Council, who they rent the ground from, before they could fix the problem.

East Preston chairman Terry Doyle said: “We spoke to the council on Friday and they were happy for us to carry out the work.

“They also wanted us to check the other two manhole covers to make sure they were in the best state. To all intents and purposes, we will have a game at home on Saturday – the only danger to it will be the rain forecast.

“It was just the time of year that meant we could not complete the work sooner.”

The County League Division 1 fixture will kick-off at 3pm.
