HORSHAM YMCA are lining up a ‘major’ swoop next week, according to boss Sammy Donnelly.
The new manager is rapidly rebuilding the squad at Gorings Mead, and added two new faces this week, in addition to the five signed the previous week.
And he says there could be one big Sussex County League name to come.
Dan Taylor, who starred for Whitehawk the year they won promotion to the Ryman League, and Grant Philpott have signed on for the coming season back in Division 1.
“There may be another big signing on Monday,” Donnelly said. “That will be a major signing. So far I have nine signed on, they have to be the right people.”
Taylor gives Donnelly plenty of options with his versatility, he is able to play in the midfielder, at full back or out wide, while Philpott is a commanding centre back, who can also play down the left hand side.
Donnelly added: “Dan is more of a natural ball player, and that’s the way we intend to play. And at 6ft 2in Grant is a very competitive defender.”
Of last season’s squad, the boss hopes to retain Scott Harris and Charlie West, although it is thought former Bognor man Harris wants to play at a higher level.
