Girls from Southwater Junior Academy showed they can really kick it as they netted victory in the shadow of Football League side Crawley Town.
The club’s 3G ball court next to the Checkatrade Stadium played host to a tournament to celebrate and promote National Girls Football Week.
The girls played five group games against schools from Crawley and surrounding areas.
They won four out of the five beating Furzefield B 3-0, Southgate 2-1, Furzefield A 3-0 and Gossops Green 4-1 to qualify for the final. Their one defeat came in a 2-0 loss against The Oaks Primary School.
That was the same opposition that Southwater Junior Academy met in the final, played in front of the opposition schools and some Crawley Town players.
The two sides played out a 1-1 draw thanks to a late goal from Lily Ward which sent it to a sudden-death penalty shoot-out.
Millie Dalrymple converted the first effort as did the Oaks player and while Ward scored her second, The Oaks missed to see Southwater crowned champions.
The rest of the team was made up of captain Georgia Pearce, Maddy Waller, Alex Rogers, Lottie French, Ella Cashman and Eloise Duffy.
