BOTH Broadbridge Heath and TD Shipley defied the soggy weather to play their penultimate games of the season with both sides suffering defeat.
Heath hosted Saltdean, where a 3-2 win for the visitors saw them leapfrog Newhaven at the top of Division 3 and seal promotion to Division 2. Heath will finish the season fifth and face neighbours Forest, who are one place below them, in their final game this Saturday.
Also in Division 3, TD Shipley hosted free-scoring Barnham, and having missed a hatful of chances in a goalless first half, the hosts fell apart as Barnham ran out 4-0 winners.
The Barnham goals came from Aaron Hancock, Matt Hibbert (two) and Sam Enticott and a disappointed TD coach Steve Barrow said: ““So that’s what humble pie tastes like? Our first half performance was a continuation of the good groundwork we had started last game at Ferring.
“We dominated a good Barnham side for 45 minutes but our lack of confidence in front of goal was again evident.
“Once they went ahead we started to unravel again and then reverted back to moaning and playing the victim. Fair play to Barnham as they soaked up what we threw at them, recomposed at half-time and did the business second half whilst we fell apart.”
