Loxwood have set their sights on a repeat of their 2010 County League Division 2 Cup final appearance after a comfortable 2-0 defeat of Westfield on Saturday.

The Magpies lost out to Littlehampton in a thrilling final two years ago, and manager Julian Miller believes the Division 2 Cup represents their best chance of silverware this season, and a first trophy in senior football.

Matt Hoyte’s third minute opener and a late strike from Tom Hoole sealed Loxwood’s progress to the third round.

Miller said: “It’s the one we are looking at as a chance of getting to the final, so why not? We would have to be very lucky in the other competitions.”

The Magpies were rarely tested on a comfortable afternoon, with keeper Sam Smith only called into one save of note.

Hoyte gave the hosts the advantage after just three minutes, cutting in off the left-wing he beat the keeper at his near post with a thumping finish.

Against a direct Westfield outfit, Loxwood had to use their only two available substitutes early, as Joe Holvey suffered a knee injury and Matt Merridew hobbled off shortly after the hour mark.

Damon Aston two two good chances go begging, but defender Hoole made sure of the win when he rose above the Westfield defence to nod home the second goal with a header which bounced into the top corner.
