Peter Buckland admitted an experiment went horribly wrong after watching his Horsham YMCA side hammered 8-0 in the FA Cup extra preliminary round at Raynes Park Vale.
The Combined Counties Premier outfit led 1-0 at the break before a glut of goals in the second half, and manager Buckland branded it a ‘disaster’.
He said: “It was a bad day at the office, and the key words that come to mind are embarrassed and let down really. We tried something tactical-wise, and it absolutely capitulated on us.
“We set up 3-5-2 and it worked perfectly up until half time.” Buckland added. “However, immediately after the break they scored quite a fortuitous second goal which knocked the stuffing out of us a bit. I changed it to 4-3-3 because we were 2-0 down and chasing the game, but we just couldn’t get to grips with the formation.”
The result means YM were denied a chance to meet their tenants at Gorings Mead, Horsham, in the preliminary round.
