Broadbridge Heath FC have a chance to repeat their County League cup heroics this Saturday when they travel to Hassocks.
Steve Painter’s Division 2 side side saw off Selsey in the first round of the John O’Hara Cup at the weekend, and have another chance to cause an upset this Saturday when they go to another Division 1 side, playing Hassocks in the second round.
Summer signing Gary Pritchard scored Heath’s winner, to cap a solid all-round team performance as Heath beat Division 1 Selsey 1-0 to progress to the second round and continue their good early season form.
Steve Painter’s side, newly promoted to Division 2, had the upper hand in the first half, and went closest when Rob Godfrey’s free-kick from the edge of the penalty area bent round the wall and came back off the post.
Heath then picked up the pace in the second period, Michael Wood saw his low shot saved before Ross Swaine and Godfrey combined to release Pritchard on a counter attack and the former TD Shipley man confidently slotted home the winner. James Fisher made one superb save to preserve the lead, while Heath went close to extending the advantage through Godfrey and Jamal Sultan.
