FORMER Horsham shot stopper Rob Frankland has made the switch to landlords Horsham YMCA as goalkeeping coach.

Frankland was John Maggs’ goalkeeping coach before the manager left the club in May, and will also deputise for Simon Lockwood - another of manager Sammy Donnelly’s new signings, when needed.

Donnelly said: “It’s important people don’t forget about goalkeeping, which is an important position. Rob will be able to step in for Simon if necessary and is coaching will be a great asset.”

YM have also signed former striker Pat Massaro ahead of their first season back in the Sussex County League. Massaro’s YM career was ended by a badly broken leg at Ramsgate, but the former Oakwood and Three Bridges man has returned after doing the rounds.

Donnelly added: “Pat is a prolific finisher. He scored 35 goals for me a few years ago at Three Bridges and I am really happy he has joined us.

“He is now fully recovered from his broken leg, is looking fit and is ready to help us build a strong squad as we go into the County League season.”

With 11 players now confirmed as signed, Donnelly is hoping to make further additions to his squad between now and the opening County League fixture which is at home to Rye Utd on August 13.

Donnelly is impressed by the youngsters coming through the club and hopes to be able to blood a couple of them in tonight’s local derby clash against Horsham, with Ryan Taylor, and Matt Merridew uppermost in his thoughts.
