RELEGATED Horsham suffered their 27th league defeat of the season on Saturday, going down 3-0 at home to second-placed AFC Hornchurch.
The Hornets went into the game at Gorings Mead with the chance of doing the double over The Urchins, with the visitors one of just three teams they have beaten all season.
But Simon Colbran’s men were missing a vast number of first-team players, fielding only four substitutes on the bench, all of them youngsters.
And the hosts never looked like taking the points as a goal from the prolific Martin Tuohy and strikes after the break from Lewis Smith and Leon McKenzie kept Hornchurch’s promotion bid well on track without them hardly having to break sweat.
Even a late chance for at least some cheer from the Horsham supporters was wasted as Wayne Clark saw his penalty saved by keeper Joe Woolley after Reiss Noel had handled in the area with two minutes remaining.
