The first half was a fairly even affair with the home side having a lot of possession but no real cutting edge, while Heath played more direct and took a half-time lead in the 28th minute when Jake Holmes took advantage of a defensive slip to send Joe Holvey away down the right, the Heath fullback took the ball to the goal-line before picking out Tim Martin 8 yards from goal and the Heath striker volleyed the ball first time into the back of the net.

Where the first half was a close contest the second period was dominated for long periods by the Bears who added a second goal within 3 minutes of the restart, Shaun Findlay put in the cross from the left flank to the far post where Holvey picked out Jake Holmes who tapped in from a yard.

Lancing pulled a goal back straightaway when Jake Mills played the ball across the face of the Heath goal but the cross should have been comfortably dealt with by Heath keeper Pavel Szelemey, in for the injured Michael Chester, but the debutant misjudged the bounce of the ball on the 3G surface and could do nothing as it flew off his body into the net for an unfortunate own-goal.

In the 53rd minute Shaun Findlay restored the 3-goal margin when he received the ball in space some 30 yards from goal, and the former Heath youth player hammered a right foot shot that flew into the top right corner of the net giving home keeper Josh Green no chance of saving.

Heath continued to create chances and added a fourth in the 69th minute and again Findlay was the provider with a left wing cross that Jake Holmes steered wide of Green with a header from 8 yards. Holmes completed his hat-trick with Heath’s fifth goal when he was brought down in the penalty area and got up to convert the spot kick with a powerful shot past Green.

Lancers scored their second with a header from close range but the game ended with another good save from Green tipping over a long range Mark Bevan effort.
