Horsham YMCA assistant manager 'not happy at all' with Peacehaven loss

Assistant manager Julian Miller admitted he was ‘not happy at all’ with nine-man Horsham YMCA following their 3-0 defeat at Peacehaven & Telscombe in the Premier Division on Saturday.

YM ended the game with nine-men after Pat Gibbs and Callum Donaghey were both given their marching orders in the 65th minute.

Conor Morley opened the scoring for Peacehaven in the second minute to put the home side 1-0 up in the early stages.

Jake Brocklebank then doubled the home side’s lead midway through the first half.

Gibbs and Donaghey were both shown red cards in the second half during the same incident.

With a two-man advantage, the Tye sealed all three points when Tyler Capon rounded off the game five minutes from time.

Speaking after the game Miller expressed his disappointment regarding the loss but felt that the two red cards were harsh.

He said: “I’m not happy at all with the result on the weekend as we gave them all three goals. We were very poor defensively.

“Pat didn’t deserve to be red carded. He was pulled back and fouled first.

“Pat was pulled down with his leg in the air and caught a defender who was blocking the ball.

“In the same incident Callum went over to push one of their players away from Pat as he’s only a youngster, unfortunately he got a second yellow. Both red cards were avoidable.”

With YM away to Eastbourne United this Saturday, Miller hopes his players will step up to the challenge.

He added: “I always look forward to games. We’ve got to get our head around things.

“We can’t seem to defend at the moment. People need to step up and the players are aware of that. The players need to take responsibility.

“We’ve got the two suspensions from the weekend and Luke Gedling was also injured on Saturday so he’s unavailable.”
