Dominic Di Paola hopes to start making signings for his new-look Horsham side by the end of the week.
The manager is keen to do his business early in the close season as he faces rebuilding a Hornets side from scratch.
Having spoken to everyone he was interested in re-signing from last year’s relegation train wreck, the 34-year-old is almost certain no-one will return to the club.
Although teams cannot officially sign players on until July 1, as he currently not having any players at the club, Di Paola is keen to have his side completely sorted before they return to pre-season training at the end of the month.
He said: “I am looking to start signing people on this week as I need to steal a bit of a march. At the moment, I have not got anyone at the club apart from the under-18s as I do not foresee anyone staying.
“We should be alright, but I am going to have to start from scratch and build a whole squad.
“I have spoken to a fair few, as, on the whole, it wasn’t a bad side and there were quite a few good players in that squad.
“But some do not want to drop down or do not want to travel as they come from miles away and a few I did not bother calling as we want to move forwards.”
By normal practice, Di Paola and his management team do not normally announce signings until the official date in July, but are opting for a different tact this season.
He continued: “It’s a tough one as normally I do not like to shout from the rooftops about it as it sets you up for a fall, but it is important for players to see that others are signing.
“I want most of it done before we are back in the last week of June, although everyone says that, but we need to really get a head start.
“We are looking to compete, but a few clubs are and it will be a tough league, but we are up for it.
“”I will be far happier when I have five of six signings. As a manager it gives you that piece of mind. I am hoping a few lads that we had at East Preston will come along as they are great lads and great players.
“But we have lost a few of them as they have gone to other clubs and enjoyed it while we have not been in the County League.
“Hopefully, by the end of this week we will make announcements on signings. Once there are it gives everyone some piece of mind.”
On the prospect of fans’ favourites Tony Nwachukwu, Tom Gilbert and Gareth Williams returning, Di Paola added: “Unless something drastic happens, I cannot see them staying. It’s a shame as I’d have liked those boys to help us.”
