Di Paola delighted with 4-0 win against Chatham

Two goals in each half by Ollie Gill, Liam MacDevitt, Lewis Hyde and Darren Boswell sealed what proved to be a comfortably victory.

The three points gained was Hornets’ third win in eight days and lifted Horsham up to 12th in the table.

This follows last weekend’s 4-3 win against Faversham, and a 5-2 win at Newhaven in the Sussex Senior Cup last Tuesday.

The only downside from a convincing display was the news of two fresh injury problems.

Winger Tony Nwuchukwu went off after 22 minutes with a hamstring strain and was replaced by Boswell.

Alex Duncan ran into an advertising hoarding and gashed his leg midway through the second half which needed six stitches.

Manager Dominic Di Paola was delighted with the display.

He said: “Our performance was excellent, everyone did well, it’s just a pity about the injury blow.

“It was just a shame Alex had to go off as he was having a great game. He will be out of a week.

“Tony Nwachukwu was also having a good game and it will be a shame to seem him out of the squad.

“We do not know how long he will be out for as we don’t yet know the extent of his hamstring injury.

“That is the first time Tony has had a hamstring injury since I have been here - but following his year out from football he has come back and had a few niggling injuries.

“Everyone worked ever so hard as we created ten chances, scoring from four of them.

“They (Chatham) hardly had a shot on goal - they did not put our keeper (Josh Pelling) under any pressure.

“We limited them to a minimal number of scoring opportunities.

“Our keeper didn’t have a lot to do as they did not put us under huge pressure.”

Ollie Gill gave Horsham the lead on the half hour, having been put through by Hyde, he turned his marker and smashed the ball into the net.

Liam MacDevitt made it 2-0 three minutes before half-time when he seizeded on a mistake by a defender and shot under the keeper.

Horsham looked well in control and after pressurising during the second half eventually scored a third goal with 13 minutes to go, getting on the end of a fine cross from the right by George Branford and firing home.

Horsham netted their fourth goal in the 89th minute when from a fast break-away move, Branford put MacDevitt through, whose cross was met at the far post by Darren Boswell who did really well to score from a tight angle.
