Midfielder Gary Dicker pulled no punches in a damning assessment of Crawley’s recent run of poor results following a latest loss at Brentford.

The 1-0 defeat to a Bees side now all but assured of automatic promotion to the championship made it six straight League One defeats, a run Dicker called “embarrassing for everyone involved with the club”.

The former Brighton player also called on the side to be braver on the ball after giving away possession too easily at Griffin Park with aimless long balls up the strikers Matt Tubbs and Billy Clarke.

Dicker said: “Every game’s tough in this league but I think the old sob stories are finished with now. That’s six (defeats) on the bounce and that’s not good enough, especially for the fans travelling here.

“The gaffer, the staff, they all do their work but it’s for us to produce and start picking up points. We need to do it sooner rather than later.

“I don’t think they (Brentford) had that many chances, we were looking comfortable until the goal but goals change games and we didn’t score and they did.

“I think we need to be better on the ball. We need to try and hurt teams a bit more when we do have the ball. Everyone talks about being brave off the ball but I think it’s about being brave on the ball.

“Doing that extra pass, taking it under pressure and trying to play out a bit more instead of just knocking balls up to the two boys up there (Tubbs and Clarke). We can’t expect them to win headers with every ball that goes up.

“There’s a lot to work on, obviously we’re disappointed, we wanted to get something out of the game but we can’t feel sorry for ourselves.

“I think we need a bit more luck and to pull our fingers out more and start producing because six on the bounce, I think it is a bit embarrassing for everyone involved. It’s up to us to do it and get the results.”
