The hugely popular Argentinian is one of 13 Crawley Town players whose contracts are about to expire, and with an announcement from the club due on Monday, further players will almost certainly follow him out of the door.

Ahead of the final game of the season on Saturday (April 5), Torres confirmed the news in a Tweet which read: “On the way to my last game for Crawley Town FC it’s been an amazing 4 years!! Thank you to everyone who support me on this great journey!

The 30-year-old was denied a farewell appearance in the 1-1 draw with Bristol City at the Broadfield because of a hand injury, picked up on Tuesday.

After the match the player Tweeted again: “Thank you so much for all the great messages!!! I really enjoyed my time at @crawleytown this clubs deserve every success in the future!”

Torres joined Crawley Town in the Conference and was an ever-present in the side which won back-to-back promotions to League One.

In total he made exactly 100 appearances, scoring seven goals, the most memorable being his brilliant injury-time strike which knocked Championship Derby County out of the FA Cup in 2011.

With a cut to next season’s playing budget the club has offered reduced wages to at least some of the squad and Gregory has admitted he expects a number of changes.
