Dean Saunders: ‘We conceded two rubbish goals’

He was not happy the two second half goals by Aden Flint and Luke Ayling were scored by means of set-pieces.

Disappointed Saunders said: “I’m gutted we came away with nothing from two good performances.

“We just switched off from two set-plays. I went over the exact situation with them yesterday to make sure everyone’s standing in the right place and I’m absolutely gutted. I won’t sleep tonight.

“No matter who we are playing, we’ve come a long way. We’ve played a team that’s ten points clear. We matched them toe-to-toe and were probably the better team and we had chances to score at the end.

“We got behind them four or five times and couldn’t get a shot off.

“They’ve got across to the rear post and we’ve talked about this for an hour so I suppose that’s why there’s four leagues. Players in the Premier League don’t switch off, players in League Two and League One switch off.

“You have defensive jobs to do in professional football to do and you have to do them. Two set-plays just killed us.”

He said: “I’m sick. We should have got something from the game on Tuesday night (at Bradford) and we should have won today and we haven’t.

“We didn’t get enough shots on today and we’ve conceded two rubbish goals. If we let people score from corners then the Fox & Barrel can beat you.

“Do your job, don’t switch off. I’m pleased with the way we played but it means nothing.

“The way we played worked. We made a team ten points clear at the top of the league look average at times. I thought we played the better football.”
