Yates revealed he has agreed new deals with a central midfielder and centre back who he expects will sign their contracts when they come back from holiday.

He said last night: “Today I’ve shaken hands over the phone with a couple of players. I have been pretty much assured they are both committed to what we are trying to do.

“They are away at the moment but I’m expecting them back at the start of next week so we should be able to announce something early to the middle of next week.”

Yates inherited a squad of just nine players which has now increased to ten when Bobson Bawling agreed a new deal this week.

The new Crawley boss said he would like to make around 20 new signings over the summer.
