Crawley Town manager Richie Barker admitted poor defending contributed to their 3-0 loss at home to Port Vale but said it was unusual and he is not being overly critical of his players.
He said: “They came and watched us and tried to do a job on us and to be fair to Port Vale they have done.
“But we have played a part in that downfall as well.
“It was very un-Joe Walsh-like to play a back pass. Usually he would put it out of play. I think Paul Jones said to roll it back to him and it set the tone for the evening.
“We came away with a lot of possession but that’s no good when you’ve been beaten 3-0 because you can’t defend.
“But having said that it’s one defeat in eight so I’m not getting carried away and there’ll be no ranting and raving going on in there.
“We try to work out what the problem is and try and solve it. These players are human beings, not robots.
“One defeat in eight is probably as good as you could ask for really.”
