Colbran: I’ll keep fighting

Simon Colbran says he won’t walk away from the job at Horsham and vowed to keep fighting until the side return to form.

The poor 3-1 defeat away at fellow strugglers Walton Casuals made it eight league games without a win, leaving the side still in search of a first three points in 2013.

The Hornets were poor all over the pitch to hand The Stags a first win at home this season, and although clearly dejected by his team’s showing Colbran vowed to do everything in his power to put things right.

“I’ve just tried to do that (lift them) in there (the dressing room) and said everybody has got to look at themselves, we’re all in this together,” Colbran said afterwards.

“I’m not throwing in the towel, I’ll be here until the end, all the time they’re (the board) are happy with me being here I’ll be here fighting all the way to get things right, and we will get things right, there’s no doubt about that, and we’ve got to get it right this Saturday.”

Because of the fixture backlog caused by the recent poor weather Horsham will play two games a week until the end of march, starting with Saturday’s trip to bottom of the table Three Bridges.

With only one team going down from the Ryman South this season, Horsham’s 13-point cushion over Bridges, plus a game in hand makes successive relegations unlikely.

Still in the context of the season it remains an important game; a morale-boosting win could be the springboard to a positive end to the season, while defeat could shatter the already brittle confidence within the squad.

“I still don’t think of it as being relegated, at the end of the day they’ve (Bridges) still got to pick up 14 points as well and I can’t see them getting that by the end of the season,” Colbran said. “But it is a massive game, if we win on Saturday it puts us out of danger near enough and then we can try to enjoy the rest of the season.”

And regarding the busy fixture schedule he added: “I actually prefer it that way at the moment, because I just want to keep going until we get it right, and when we do get it right the points will add up. But like I say we haven’t thrown in the towel, we’ll be there Saturday trying to do what we can to win.”
