Chilt up to second with hard-fought Upper Beeding win

It what was their first game for two months West Chiltington overcame a hard-working Upper Beeding side 2-1 in the Premier Division of the West Sussex Football League.

The vital win saw Chilt move up to second in the Premier Division.

Chilt started brightly and put the home defence under some pressure, with several crosses leading to half chances before Tom Freeman fired a ball in for Gary Weedon to control, turn and shoot into the top corner from just outside the box for an excellent opener.

Upper Beeding were then unlucky not to equalise on several occasions before Chilt increased their lead, Dan Leppard smashing home a tremendous shot from 25 yards.

Upper Beeding got back into the game early in the second half with a fine long range goal of their own.

Chilt keeper David Williams then produced a number of fine saves to secure the win for his side and take the man of the match award.

In the Worthing & Horsham District Sunday League Invitation Cup, any chance of Ajax Kings Arms winning anything other than the wooden spoon were dashed by a youthful Southwater side who ran out 3-1 winners in the quarter final.

Ajax spurned chances before Southwater raced into a two-goal lead.

Southwater then went 3-0 up before Chris Osborne tapped home a consolation after good work from Andy Barr.
