Hojbjerg netted from Nathan Redmond's pass after 53 minutes, before Albion pressed for an equaliser and Martin Montoya crashed a shot against the woodwork. Here's how we rated the players of both teams.

Saved well-struck Redmond shot in early stages. No chance with Hojbjerg goal and had few other shots to deal with.
Solid in defence and supported attacks well but Saints' goal came from down his side after Albion gave the ball away. Crashed a shot against the bar at 1-0.
Dominant in the air defending set-pieces as usual.
Bravely charged down Armstrong shot late in the first half. Headed opportunity over just after Southampton took the lead. Blocked goalbound Bertrand shot at 1-0.
Tidy on the ball. Excellent block to deny Ings in the first half and nipped in to stop the Saints striker from having a shooting chance at the start of the second period. Volleyed into side netting late on. Sponsor's man of the match.
Always an option for a pass. Delayed shooting when an opportunity presented itself at 1-0. Booked.
Kept things simple and also played a couple of lovely long-range passes. Had a penalty shout turned down just before he was subbed.
Replaced Beram Kayal in the starting line-up in the only change from Millwall. Bright throughout and looked to get Albion on the front foot. Lost possession for Saints' goal.
Full of running. Went on mazy run early on after neat flick from Murray and curled a shot wide on the hour.
Didn't see much of the ball. Headed a Knockaert cross over under pressure late in the first half.
Always looked to be involved but struggled to have much impact. Fired one shot wide and had another blocked early on. Subbed.
Went on for Jahanbakhsh just after the hour but things didn't quite come off for the wideman.
Sent on for Propper. Low shot saved by Gunn in closing stages.
Off his line quickly to stop Murray getting on the end of long ball forward in the first half. Low stop to deny Locadia late on.
Young full-back supported the Saints' attacks when possible and defended well against Jahanbakhsh and then March.
Strong performance at the back to help limit Albion's opportunities. Good defensive header to stop Knockaert getting in behind midway through the first half.
Excellent at the back alongside Yoshida. Dealt well with everything Albion threw forward.
Got forward from left-back into some dangerous positions. Goalbound shot blocked at 1-0.
In-form midfielder earned his second England cap last week. Set-piece threat. Booked.
Hard working display in midfield. Cut out dangerous low Bissouma cross on 23 minutes.
Heartbeat of the team in the middle of the park. Played one lovely through ball for Bertrand and scored when he coolly fired past Ryan on 53 minutes.
Worked hard. Set up opportunity for Ings and had a shot charged down in the first half. Subbed.
Returned after missing six games. Had penalty appeals waved away when he went down under a Montoya challenge in the first half. Low shot blocked by Bernardo at 0-0.
A threat throughout with his pace going forward. Had one fierce shot saved and drilled another opening wide before he set up Hojbjerg for Saints' goal.
Replaced Ings with 23 minutes to go.
Defender went on for Armstrong with 16 minutes to go. Booked.
Late introduction for Redmond.
