Billingshurst boss backs his side to rediscover their early season form

Billingshurst boss Mark Betts reckons his side could still be playing at Hurstpierpoint now and still not have found the back of the net.

On a surface Betts described as ‘right back to parks football’, the hosts won it with a scrambled Wayne Bashford goals three minutes before half-time and then successfully shut up shop.

“I’m not trying to make excuses because to be fair they have picked up some good results of late and we just could not get going,” Betts said. “But in fairness the pitch was abysmal, it took us right back to parks football and was a complete leveller.”

The visitors did have chances; striker Darren Annis forced a strong save from the home keeper, who also denied Toby Feast in the second half as Hurstpierpoint got men behind the ball to protect their lead.

Billingshurst are yet to recapture their early season form after so much disruption but Betts said: “We have lost some momentum but we’ve got the players to pick it up again.”
