Festival crown the icing on the cake for Pulborough Rugby Club’s Under-12 team

Pulborough Rugby Club’s Under-12s rounded off a great season by winning the West Sussex Festival at Crawley Rugby Club on Sunday

After opening with a 0-0 draw against Worthing, Pulborough upped their game to win 2-0 against Haywards Heath and 7-0 in their final group game against Midhurst.

Having come through the group stages undefeated and without conceding a try the squad of sixteen then defeated local rivals Horsham 2-0 in the semi-final with tries from Ralph Robson and Chad Marais.

A closely-fought final against Chichester saw the Boro boys run out 1-0 winners with the try fittingly being scored by Lauren Fisher in her final game before she joins the burgeoning Pulborough ladies side.

It meant Pulborough finished the day unbeaten and without conceding a try and an ecstatic head coach Stuart Hobbs said: “The players today and indeed the rest of the squad who were training back at Pulborough have worked unbelievably hard this year and this really does cap a great season for the team.”

The Pulborough Under-tens also won their age group, showing how the club’s minis section continues to go from strength to strength.

Mike Fisher, minis chairman added: “I am delighted with how all our teams played and the spirit shown throughout the club, this does indeed cap a wonderful season for our minis.”

The winning Boro sides will now go on to play in the Sussex RFU County Finals on April 28 at Brighton, taking on the East Sussex age group winners for the County Cup.
