THE SUSSEX Under-13 girls team including four players from Horsham CC reached the semi-finals of the County Championship with a thrilling last ball victory over Buckinghamshire on Saturday.
The Sussex side, with Tara Norris, Eleanor Monk, Flora Bertwistle and Molly Beadle all flying the flag for Horsham, restricted Buckinghamshire to 147-9 from their 30 overs having won the toss and decided to field at Ferring Cricket Club.
The Sussex chase was going well until some tight bowling brought Buckinghamshire back into the game and in a nervy finish the scores were tied right down to the very last ball.
Nicola Howell kept her nerve to strike the winning runs and send Sussex into the semi-finals on Tuesday August 30 with their opponents yet to be decided.
All four Horsham girls impressed, with Monk taking a crucial early wicket and Beadle bowling well to take figures of 2-14, while Norris scored an important 14 runs.
Sussex Women’s director of cricket, Charlotte Burton said: “I am so pleased for the Under-13 girls, they have put in some great performances throughout the season, but they left their best performance so far to the quarter finals.
“It is a fantastic achievement for them to reach the semi-finals and if they perform like they did on Saturday they will be on course to reach the final of the County Championship.”
