Slinfold’s overseas player Akeem Jordan put Horsham on the back foot with a brilliant 51.

He was then just as good with the ball and reduced Horsham to 45-6 by taking 3-19.

Akeem only arrived one day earlier from boiling Barbados but plundered a wonderful unbeaten half century as Slinfold scored 107-7.

The highlight of their innings was a useful 48 stand for the fifth wicket between Akeem and Tim Coghill (21) who between them blasted four sixes in the space of three overs.

Horsham’s new captain Sam Attfield said: “It was a very tough game and both sides played very well. We should have chased them better than we did. Kamau bowled very well with our overseas and took a few wickets. Our spinners held the innings together very well with minimal runs.

“Elliott Cloy batted very well and held the innings together which was nice. Travis came in and hit a six second or third ball to win the game in the last over.

“A few of us gave away our wickets on a soft pitch.”

Horsham’s Kamau Leverock starred with the ball, taking 3-18 off four overs which at one stage had Slinfold struggling at 38-4.

Horsham were 45-6 before Elliott Cloy struck 31 and Dave Castle 22 not out to help get them home in a very close three-wicket victory.

Slinfold captain Guy Thorne was pleased with their display against his former club.

He said: “We are delighted to take Premier League Horsham as far as we did, almost to the last ball.

“We thought with three or four overs to go we’d done enough to see us to the end.

“So a massive credit to our guys for making a tight game of it.

“Akeem made a fantastic debut and we are delighted with the aquisition. A real boost for the boys and he was well supported by the rest of the team.”
