The week started well for Head, who hit 142 off 86 versus Western Australia in the Marsh Cup but was unable to carry his side to victory as they were defeated by 13 runs after being bowled out for 356, chasing 370 to win. Head further his case for an Australian recall when he made 86 and 44 versus New South Wales in the Sheffield Shield.

He also chipped in with the ball, dismissing Nick Larkin for 22 in the second innings but he was unable to prevent a New South Wales side containing the likes of David Warner and Mitchell Starc winning by six wickets.

The captain of South Australia looked to get revenge on New South Wales when the two sides met again later in the week but this time in the Marsh Cup. However, Head was only able to make 29 as his side were bowled out for 205 and were defeated by six wickets.

* Sussex’s Freya Davies recorded her best figures in an England shirt as the tourists took an unassailable 2-0 lead in their IT20 series against New Zealand in Wellington.

It came in the middle of a series that England won 3-0 with Davies and her Sussex teammate Danni Wyatt each playing key roles.

The seamer took 4-23 from her four overs as the hosts were restricted to 123-9 batting first at the Westpac Stadium. Entering the attack in the fifth over, Davies struck with her sixth delivery, having opener Hayley Jensen caught in the deep. Then in the fifteenth over, the 25-year-old bowled the White Ferns’ top-scorer Amy Satterthwaite for 49 before having Maddy Green caught behind for a duck three balls later. In the right-armer’s final over, she made it four when Kate Ebrahim was bowled for two.

There were two wickets each for Nat Sciver and Sarah Glenn, and one for Sophie Ecclestone. Tammy Beaumont continued her sublime form with bat by scoring 63 at the top of the order, as England cruised to victory with 2.4 overs to spare. Wyatt made nine and Davies was named player of the match.

In the third and final game on Sunday, Wyatt made three and Davies one not out in what looked a below-par England score of 128-9. But in the hosts’ reply, Davies was one of six bowlers to take at least one wicket as New Zealand were bowled out for 96.

England have won their last 11 completed IT20s. The clean sweep in thr IT20s followed a 2-1 England in in their ODI series. England’s summer schedule is now awaited.

* Former Sussex players Monty Panesar and James Tredwell turned out for England Legends in a match versus Bangladesh Legends in the Road Safety World Series.

The series is a T20 cricket competition organised by the Road Safety Cell of Maharashtra in India to raise awareness about road safety and sees Legends sides from India, England, Bangladesh, West Indies, South Africa and Sri Lanka compete against each other.

England were playing their first match of the series with ex-internationals such as Kevin Pietersen and Chris Tremlett alongside Panesar and Tredwell, the latter a player who was loaned to Sussex in 2014.

England bowled first and both Panesar and Tremlett looked good and kept it tight, with the former getting a wicket in the process by trapping Nafees Iqbal leg-before for eight.

Both helped restrict Bangladesh Legends to 113/5 with Panesar finishing with figures of 1-15 from his allocation and Tredwell 0-18 from his four overs. England Legends were able to chase down 116 with ease as they won by seven wickets.
