‘Roffey a credit to the Sussex League’

SUNDAY’S marvellous National Knockout Cup success is a result of Roffey giving their young players a chance.

That is according to Tony Millard, the results and fixture secretary for the Sussex Cricket League, after the Horsham side beat Spencer CC to reach the last 16 of the competition.

Speaking on behalf of the league, Mr Millard said: “What Roffey have done is marvellous and a brilliant advert for the League.

“They were only promoted to the Premier League a year ago and have shown what a club can do by developing young players and giving them a chance.

“To reach the last 16 is a credit to the club and to the League. It may be tough to go further but they have already caused people to sit up and take notice.

“Eight years ago Horsham won this cup, Eastbourne have twice made the final and Hastings have done so once so we have a good county record.”

Roffey are now just three games away from a Lord’s final and will host Cambridge Granta CC in the next round on Sunday July 17.
