Kirdford Cricket Club wrapped up a second win of the season thanks to James Lywood’s seven wicket haul against Watersfield yesterday.
Asked to bat first on a warm afternoon, Kirdford were in serious trouble at 13-3, with L. Sanderson (3-27) taking the early scalps. However a 94-run partnership between George Reynolds (49) and Jamie Rountree (43) nudged Kirdford to within touching distance of a respectable total. Excellent bowling from K Clarke (4-15) put paid to that though, and Kirdford were dismissed for just 117.
It looked bleak for Kirdford when Watersfield’s reply got off to a flyer with some good blows from W. Harrison (24), and were well positioned at 51 without loss. But Lywood stepped up, and took a stunning seven wickets, bowling with pace and venom, as he left a path of destruction in his wake and 51-0 became 90 all out. Simon Pett (1-7) and then John Upton (2-9) joined in the fun., another champagne moment was provided by Kirdford skipper Ben Jeffery after a remarkable slip catch.
