Horsham skipper praises batsman Burroughs in defeat

JOHN Burroughs continued the good start to his Horsham career with another half century at East Grinstead on Saturday.

The opener’s 73 runs was not enough to hand Horsham victory as the middle order failed to kick on from a good platform laid by the right hander, James Johnson and Will Beer.

East Grinstead spinner Craig Fowle did the damage by claiming an eight wicket haul as Horsham were all out for 178, and although the host’s were never comfortable in their reply, a century stand between Matthew Sugg and Will Adkin helped them home.

Burroughs struck 70 in the opening day victory over Eastbourne and his new skipper Craig Gallagher, said: “Our openers did well, John especially got us off to a good start and I’ve been very happy with the start he’s made here.

“Having come from Billingshurst who were in Division 2 last year he’s stepped up to the Premier Division this season and already got two very good scores and is looking strong.”

Gallagher also praised the start made by New Zealand overseas Matt Henry, who followed up last week’s match-winning 99 by claiming three wickets.
