Hard-working Slinfold keep up their 100 per cent start with derby delight

It was the home side’s third straight victory of the season as they continue to lead the way with Rye, while Wisborough sit at the other end of the spectrum without a win.

It was, however an improved performance from Jamie Self’s side in the derby clash with Thorne admitting it was their toughest game yet.

Slinfold having lost the toss were asked to bat and lost a couple of early wickets, before Akeem Jordan (48) and Paul Osbourne (43) put together a destructive partnership which laid the foundations for the rest of the order.

Matt Shuttlewood added 24 and Steve Haines and Andy Parsons made unbeaten knocks of 58 and 35 to allow the home side to declare on 271-7 after 45 overs.

In reply, Wisborough openers, the returning Martin Hopkins (23) and Tim Dodd (ten) got them off to a reasonable start, before Akeem Jordan kicked into gear and went on to claim 5-56 accounting for the top half of the order.

Wisborough’s Nick Baron (64), Dan Vickery (19) and a resilient Ben Thatcher (41) put up a fight in the middle order, but with Harrison Webb (2-52) Thorne (2-23) and Jordan accounting for them between them, Wisborough closed on 194 all out after 45 overs.

Thorne said: “I am delighted with another 30 points and our third league win of the season. We had to work hard for it, do all of the running and dig deep at some key moments, but we secured what was in the end a very comfortable victory.

“It was great to see Akeem and Ossie in the runs, and I’m delighted for Hainsey – he really showed everyone what he’s capable of.

“We attacked for 45 overs and I have to give my team huge credit as we held our catches, all the bowlers chipped in and as a unit I’m really pleased with how things are coming together.

“I was pleased we had to work hard for the victory, and it was a toughest game yet. We did have to make all of the running for most of the day, but that is fine as long as we continue to work hard, play as a unit and support each other.

“Hopefully the wins can continue to come, but we need to keep improving.”
