Horsham were skittled out for just 83 runs - Kamau Leverock top scoring with 24 - and the current champions easily knocked off the runs on their own patch.

Horsham have now failed to reach 200 in any of their four completed games and Gallagher shouldered the blame for the heavy loss: “I’ve told my batsmen, and I include myself in this that it’s about time we start performing and do our bowlers a favour.

“I was out for a duck to a stupid shot, trying to slog sweep so I have to take responsibility for the defeat.”

Neither Gallagher or the equally experienced John Burroughs have found any form so far this season and he added: “I’ve now had two ducks and he’s had starts but no big scores so we know our batting is below par and needs to change.”

Burroughs and Ben Shoare made 30 for the first wicket before Burroughs chased a wide one and was caught behind. Shoare was bowled by Owen Kernan, Elliott Cloy was out for 14 and Sam Attfield was unlucky with a ball which rolled onto his stumps.

But from there six Horsham batsmen went for ducks, only Leverock offering any resistance with 24 as paceman Carl Simon (4-18) tore through the tail. Ibrahim ended with 4-18 and Kernan 2-23.

In reply Angus Stewart hit 43 off 42 and Joe Gatting 19 off 18 to see the hosts home in 14 overs. “On the plus side Leverock bowled the quickest I’ve seen him. We definitely have the players and I fully back us to get it right,” Gallagher added.

James Johnson is expected to return to boost the batting for Saturday’s home match against Worthing, while Dev Endersby could also be available.
