Chichester win keeps Horsham in contention

Horsham bounced back from last weekend’s defeat to Roffey with a convincing eight-wicket defeat of Chichester Priory Park today (Saturday).

Horsham skipper Craig Gallagher won the toss and put Chichester into bat, and having made a solid start at 65-1 the visitors collapsed to 124 all out in 26 overs.

The home spinners again did the damage with Will Beer taking four wickets and Michael Munday three.

In reply the hosts were anything but rapid in knocking off the runs, getting there in more than 40 overs, although they only lost two wickets and a Horsham win never looked in doubt as Sussex man Beer rounded off a fine individual day with an unbeaten half century.

With Preston Nomads also winning it remains tight at the top, and Horsham captain Gallagher is targeting another 30 points when his side host the Sussex Development XI at Cricketfield Road tomorrow.

He said: “We were all disappointed to lose last week so I said to the guys this is a 60 point weekend for us so I’m happy that we’re halfway there.

“We did what we had to do, with 80 overs to get 120 odd runs we were never going to go out like a bull in a china shop but Beero batted really well to take the game away from them.

“Hopefully we can do the same against the Development XI tomorrow to stay right up there.”
