Promotion back to Division 2 is in Billingshurst’s hands for the first time after a big 30-point win at Bognor on Saturday.
Andy Barr took five wickets before Carleon Brome smashed a half century as Hurst won by eight wickets to leapfrog Bognor into second. Leaders Middleton ‘dropped’ 10 points in beating Steyning and now lead Hurst by 20 points, setting up a potential winner-takes-all fight for the sole promotion spot when the sides meet on the final day of the season.
Skipper Billy Harris said: “We knew we had to go there and do whatever we could to take all 30 points and we absolutely dominated. “Andy was absolutely fantastic, he earned all his wickets. But how Andy Wellfare didn’t get a wicket I’m not sure.”
Ben Williams also took 3-27 and Danushka Mitpolaarachchi 2-23 as Bognor were skittled out for 106 on home turf.
Barbadian Brome ensured there was no trouble knocking off the runs, his 62 from 38 balls was nearly all boundaries and included four sixes. Philip Marshalloffered decent support on his First XI debut “Apart from two runs just before he got out Carleon’s knock was all boundaries, it was entertaining to watch. Middleton on the last day of the season should now be fun,” Harris added.
