England Boxing have put lots of new rules in place for all boxing clubs to beat the virus. Rules require three metres between each boxer and coaches can nstill ot do pad work nor let boxers spar.

But Horsham BC are lucky to have the open space of the park, while most of the boxers are back in the gym now. They can only have seven boxers in at one time.

Head coach Danny Essex said: “We have now put new training sessions in place. It means the coaches are putting more hours in the gym, from 5.30 til 8.30 four nights a week. The guys are working with us to make it work.

“I’m sure by now most people know we have applied for planning permission to put up an extension on the existing building. If permitted

it will make a vast difference enabling us to take on more youngsters when this virus is over.

“It is very difficult to take on new members at this time and we hate to turn anyone away – we have always let anyone join so they have a chance to fulfil their dreams to become a boxer, or just to get fit and learn the discipline that boxing brings.

“Many boxers from this small club have turned their life around: some have joined the armed forces but still call into the club when they are home on leave.

“That is the bond that boxing brings and it forms lifelong friendships.”

Everyone at the club said they wished local people and County Times readers well at this time.
