Beighton set on realising childhood Manx GP dream

Horsham biker Dan Beighton is set on realising a childhood dream when he races at the Manx GP this year.

The 40-year-old has been given the opportunity to ride on the 37.7-mile mountain course which also hosts the world-famous TT - to which this event is a stepping stone.

He will ride his Kawasaki zx7r in both the newcomers A and senior events. He was offered a place after attending a course on the Isle of Man in January to start to learn more about the circuit, paddock and protocol for road racing.

Beighton’s 2015 didn’t go quite as planned in the end, due to funding issues he wasn’t able to complete the number of rounds he wanted in Thundersport GB. Aware his ultimate goal was to race at the Manx GP, he and his DB Racing team decided to save money for that.

Winter tests in Spain before the season started this year saw some good sessions breaking in a new engine and Beighton become an ACU instructor for Bemsee.

Since, he has competed at a couple of rounds with Thundersport and Bemsee and got some promising results, breaking into the top ten at Silverstone, building up to his ultimate dream.

Beighton said: “In August this year I will be heading out to the Isle of Man to realise my childhood dream. So, preparation has commenced.

“This really is an amazing opportunity and I feel incredibly lucky and privileged to have been given the chance to compete. Work is being done on the bike to ensure he has the best possible chance of success. This obviously comes at a price.

“Although we do have a small amount of sponsorship and a massive thanks go to Virtual-UC for once again coming on-board as our title sponsor, most of this is being privately funded. With this in mind the number of short circuit events we had planned have had to be cut so that we are able to save as much money as we can and save the bike for the Manx.”
