Regulars and staff at the Cock Inn, Southwater, donned fancy dress on Monday and took to the streets in a sponsored wheelbarrow push.

The brave 11 walked seven-and-a-half miles from the pub to the National Children’s Home, Mannings Heath via Horsham town centre, pushing £50 worth of Easter eggs donated by their brewery.

They raised £66 en route and about £500 through sponsorship for a Southwater Lions project.

Elsewhere Olympic hopeful and Steyning Athletic Club rising star Darrell Stone delighted his fans when he smashed the course record for the 15 mile Steyning Easter Monday walking race.

He strode down a packed Steyning High Street to thunderous applause after coming in almost 16 minutes ahead of his nearest rival.

Darrell, then aged 20 , of Penlands Vale, Steyning, knocked four minutes and 24 seconds off the record he set last year.

He completed the 15 mile circular course from Steyning through Partridge Green and Henfield and back to Steyning Clock Tower in one hour 47 minutes and 19 seconds, a blisteringly fast time.
