COMPASS Bus is encouraging its customers to respond to West Sussex County Council’s Impact Survey if they are concerned about possible cuts to local bus services.
Most of the services operated by Compass are under contract to WSCC which is are proposing a £2m cut in its transport budget over the next three years.
This represents over 40 per cent of the current WSCC transport budget and is far higher than most councils are considering.
While no decisions have been made on which services will be affected, now is the time to fight for services, which for some people are a lifeline.
The following Compass bus services are being considered for possible cuts:
16: Worthing to Lancing – reduced frequency
19: Holmbush to Shoreham Beach – withdrawal of evening service after 1815
63: Cranleigh to Horsham – withdrawal of Sunday service
70A: Horsham to Oakhill – withdrawal of Sunday service
74: Ashington to Horsham – reduced frequency
75,76: Petworth to Horsham – reduced frequency
100: Henfield to Burgess Hill (only this section) – reduced frequency
104: Woodmancote to Henfield – withdrawal of service
106: Henfield to Worthing – withdrawal of service
150: Itchenor/East Wittering – Selsey – withdrawal of service
650: North Mundham Primary School – withdrawal of service.
The first phase of cuts will happen in September 2011, with a second phase in March 2012.
If you would like to have your say, please go to the West Sussex County Council website, where you will find a link, or Compass’ website: www.compass-travel.co.uk.
Response forms will also be available on the Compass buses. All feedback should be received by June 10.
