Superb success of open gardens

On Sunday June 24 residents of 13 properties in the Causeway in Horsham kindly opened their gardens to the public to raise funds for Parkinson’s UK Horsham and District Branch.

During the day the area of the historic Causeway was buzzing with hundreds of people viewing the open gardens, Horsham Museum garden and St Mary’s Flower Festival.

Visitors were treated to a wonderful variety of colourful gardens from courtyard gardens to spacious vistas with large herbaceous borders.

Each garden was a wonderful surprise to behold in the glorious sunshine. Delicious refreshments including ploughman’s lunches, homemade cakes and cream teas were popular.

Former Horsham MP Sir Peter Hordern drew the raffle with a first prize of a hot air balloon ride for two.

There were also many other quality prizes generously donated by local traders, organisations and individuals.

The day was a superb success and raised £5,904 towards research and support for people affected by Parkinson’s.

We are extremely grateful to the many residents in the Causeway who opened their gardens to the public and without whom this truly meorable event could not have taken place.

W ith everybody’s support we raised over £1,500 from the Grand Draw; £3,000 from the gardens; and the balance from donations and catering.

This money will go to dedicated research projects and helping local people with Parkinson’s.

During the afternoon we had the Grand Draw, with some 22 prizes awarded.

I should like to thank the local traders and businesses who were kind enough to donate these gifts to support our event:

All that Glitters, Beauty Secrets, Beer Essentials, Between the Lines, Boots, The Crabtree Inn, Horsham Superbowl, La Source, Little Black Olive, Samuel Parker, Snipperz, Studio 2, Waterstones.

Many thanks to you all for your generosity.

May I, on behalf of Horsham branch, thank everyone who attended or supported the event.

In particular I would like to thank the West family for their kindness, forebearance and generosity.

We couldn’t have done it without you.
