I am not sorry to see the removal of the Shelley Fountain from Horsham’s Bishopric which, for the past 20 years, has been an ugly, incongruous eyesore.
To me, it was akin to walking into St Paul’s Cathedral in London and seeing a fast food outlet in the aisle!
The sculptor may well have been ‘an artist good enough for the Queen’, but I would be willing to bet that HM The Queen would not have had it in her front garden.
The site of the fountain already looks better with the trees planted in its place.
As for those who commissioned this monstrosity in the first place, they should be made to pay the cost of its removal out of their own pockets.
