I would like to comment on the County Times report of July 7 about the supposed ‘consultation’ regarding the opening times of Household Waste Recycling Sites (HWRS).
The results you published confirm the widely held perception that the consultation was merely an expensive PR stunt.
Despite nearly 5,000 people taking the time and trouble to respond, West Sussex County Council responded in the usual negative manner, which we are so accustomed to now, and has done what it intended to do before the consultation.
It would be interesting to know what the costs of this PR fiasco are, to the hard- pressed ratepayers and if you total up the costs of expensive consultants plus resources, what transpires is a gross waste of funds.
Because to placate the risk of fly tipping, which we know mainly occurs in the hours of darkness, there is no positive evidence to support the cost of two enforcement officers.
And I believe WSCC is nearly at the bottom of the national league table for enforcement for fly tipping, so yet another negative PR disaster for WSCC.
This travesty reflects so negatively on the superb service that the staff and facility delivers to the residents of Billingshurst and surrounding area.
However, the light at the end of the tunnel is the May elections 2017, when perhaps reality will come to rest!
