LETTER: Management speak offends

I was appalled to read Horsham District Council’s reasoning for adding three more councillors from

the present 44 to 47, as expressed in County Times (‘More councillors to provide

effective decision making.’)

Leaving aside any justification for requiring 47 councillors to cover the Horsham District instead of the present 44 ; it was the tone of the statement that offended me most.

This was couched in a sort of management-speak nonsense that I found most offensive.

Phrases such as ‘Overview and scrutiny to continue to be energised...’ and ‘to inform decision making and policy development through participation in the advisory function’.

Really? The district council is clearly betraying its contempt for the intelligence of the good people of Horsham when talking like this.

It’s not funny and it’s not clever. Stop it, now, unless you want to stay behind after school.
