‘Infantile superstition’

REGARDING the holding of prayer meetings at council sessions by some of our elected representatives, I think rather than dwelling on the question of the Equality Commission, which so exercised the County Times’ resident Colonel Blimp in his column, we should just ask what on earth these people think they are doing?

Do they imagine some ‘Higher Power’ is sitting up there on a cloud, ready to take the minutes or arbitrate on someone’s barn conversion (perhaps that should be manger conversion)?

We vote for these people and pay for their expenses so they will spend their time making rational decisions on our behalf. If they feel the need to indulge in infantile superstition, they should do so on their own time and in the privacy of their own homes.
