FRANCIS Maude has been widely condemned for his advice which prompted ‘panic buying’ of petrol.
More serious in my view is that the advice he gave regarding storing petrol in a jerrycan in a domestic garage was not only dangerous, but also illegal.
A jerrycan holds 20 litres, which is twice the amount permitted for domestic storage in a single metal container. If a cabinet minister gives illegal advice he is clearly ‘not fit for purpose’ and should resign.
