In the County Times on September 17, district councillor Peter Burgess contended that an elected civilian head of the police force for the whole of Sussex is a waste of taxpayers’ money.
Katy Bourne, already selected as a candidate for election to that post, ie of Police and Crime Commission, has herself publicly declared that the offered annual salary of £85,000 is excessive – so we shall have to wait and see what transpires!
Katy Bourne is a very capable and business-like young lady who has promised, if finally elected, to ensure we see more police on our streets and tougher sentences for vandals and other criminals.
She is also in favour of special constables.
I hope too she will ensure police stations will not be closed early on Friday evenings as Horsham’s is at present.
Apparently our police station in Hurst Road is only open Monday to Friday from 10am to 2pm, closed from 2pm to 3pm and again after 6pm plus all weekend!
