The artificial surface is being put in at Woodside Road today, with work expected to be finished by early next month.

The work began in April and is just one of a raft of changes coming in the close-season for Rebels.

Speaking to the Worthing Herald recently, Rebels majority shareholder George Dowell said he could not wait for the 3G pitch to be in place, adding: “It was something I wanted to do as soon as I came into the club and, now the work is well underway, it’s great. The first match is going to be a great occasion for everyone involved with the club.

As well as the new pitch, and new majority shareholder Dowell, Rebels also have new join-managers, in Gary Elphick and Jon Meeney following the resignation of Adam Hinshelwood earlier this week.

Hinshelwood stepped down after a year and a half as Rebels boss to take up a coaching role with Brighton & Hove Albion.
